One laptop. One child. All San Francisco State.
Submitted by sverma on Thu, 2008-09-04 13:55.SF State's Xpress magazine/campus newspaper has a feature about the One Laptop per Child Project and the OLPC-SF group. From the article:
Not only are the laptops durable — they can withstand a drop from up to five feet — but Verma also noted that they have some unique features.
For example, the computer encourages collaborative work by enabling the sharing of documents between two laptops without an Internet connection. “Two children in a classroom can work on a paper together,” Verma said. “And it’s so simple that even a 5-year-old can figure it out. That in itself for me is mind-blowing.”

The close relationship between education and technology
Submitted by sverma on Thu, 2008-05-01 18:55.Education has become quite interleaved in technology. The role that technology plays goes across the board with hardware, software and networks. However, perhaps the most powerful of these elements is indeed the network. It connects. It multiplies. It exponentializes the access to information.
Dr. Hector Ruiz is the CEO of AMD, and through AMD’s 50×15 (Fifty by Fifteen) initiative, Ruiz and his company hope to connect 50 percent of the world to the Internet by 2015. Ruiz talks about his commitment to giving the whole world access to the Internet. It all starts with Ruiz's own struggle to get an education and making it to the top.

Your opportunity to make some big bucks: Google opens cloud to crowd
Submitted by sgill on Tue, 2008-04-08 15:22.Google announced the beta launch of App Engine, a set of tools and services that will let Web developers run their own applications on Google's platform, avoiding all that troublesome back end maintenance. The App Engine is built to allow applications to scale from one user to millions or handle unexpected traffic spikes without a hiccup. It offers dynamic Web serving, persistent storage with queries, sorting and transactions, and the option to use Google's authentication. To create an App you need to know Python. Python is a dynamic object-oriented programming language that can be used for many kinds of software development.
