The close relationship between education and technology
Education has become quite interleaved in technology. The role that technology plays goes across the board with hardware, software and networks. However, perhaps the most powerful of these elements is indeed the network. It connects. It multiplies. It exponentializes the access to information.
Dr. Hector Ruiz is the CEO of AMD, and through AMD’s 50×15 (Fifty by Fifteen) initiative, Ruiz and his company hope to connect 50 percent of the world to the Internet by 2015. Ruiz talks about his commitment to giving the whole world access to the Internet. It all starts with Ruiz's own struggle to get an education and making it to the top.
The following is part of the TED talks series from 2007. The 2007 global meeting was in Arusha, Tanzania. Its quite inspiring. The next time you get onto the Internet, think about that e-mail you just got, or the search you just concluded, or purchase you just made and imagine that what you take for granted isn't quite true for a lot of our world. Education is indeed the cornerstone for a better understanding of our world, and connectivity will make that happen.
Enjoy the talk.
